What is the difference between "gold filled" and "gold plated" jewelry?
Gold plate is created using a process called electroplating. A thin molecule of gold, or something that leaves a gold color, is placed on a metal. The color can wear off depending on the acidity of the wearer's skin and the pollutants in the air.
Gold filled is created by bonding a thin layer of real gold over another metal, like brass or copper. This process is called heat and pressure bonding. It wears off much slower than jewelry that is plated.
